How to decide on your first tattoo

Getting your first tattoo is a decision most people ponder on. The best answer is; something about you as a person. Tattoos are representations of something important in your life.

Several military men get tattoos that signify the branch of service they are a part of or unit number or even their unit nickname. For many it is a sign of pride and bravery. As a representation of love it can be a name of a close buddy, date of births of the children, or tattoos can be symbol that represents a loved one who have died and may sometimes be a character of an important person in your life.

When tattoos began, they were used to depict the group of people that a specific person belonged to. They were used to illustrate bravery and pride as well. Today, many people are designing their own tattoos for the "exclusive" rendition of their pride, love or bravery.

When you decide to get a tattoo, before you decide where to get one, you must first choose the design. It doesn't mean you have to have a specific tattoo picked out, but you must have a good idea of what you want in terms of design. It is not a good idea to have a name tattooed on your body anywhere. There is a saying; "lovers may come and lovers may go but a tattoo is forever!" It may not be as true today as it once was with laser surgery as popular as it is, but tattoos are meant to be permanent.

Before choosing what tattoo to get, visualize about special things in your life and how want it shown. Getting a small tattoo as a first tattoo has always been an excellent idea because if you no longer want it, you can have it covered by a bigger one.

Ask a tattoo artist. They can assist you on what to select and where to go. Since tattoo artists do this for a living, they mainly know what they're doing with permanent designs.

Tattoos such as cartoon characters, movie characters, themed tattoos and tribal tattoos should only be considered for the serious. These are time consuming and expensive. Your tattoo should be something that represents you as a person, your likes, or your life in general.

There is no right or wrong tattoo to get for a first tattoo, however you must remember that each one you get tells a story about something in your life that is important to you.
