Read Before you Get a tattoo

You need to ensure that your tattoo creation area is well provided with necessary hygiene maintaining equipment like an autoclave, containers to store infected waste and already used needles. It is also recommended to have a sink within the tattoo working area, which can supply both hot and cold water for continuous cleaning and this is a mandatory legal requirement in certain countries. To ensure sterility, before he makes the client ready for the tattoo stencil, it is imperative for the tattooist to properly disinfect his hands and use gloves which have to be discarded immediately after use.

Certain rules to be followed

You cannot perform a tattoo on minors without taking the consent from their parents, on pregnant women, on persons who have had alcohol or drugs, those with skin problems and on those who are not of sound mental health.

The tattoo creator has to take the endorsement of the customer about the tattoo spot identified and only then proceed with his work, fully safeguarding against any infections by donning gloves, using plenty of antiseptics and tools like needles, ink caps and other instruments that can be disposed off after a single use. All waste matter needs to be autoclaved and those like hard furniture, machines need to be wiped very neatly with a lot of antiseptic solution.

It is disturbing that the art of tattoo has most of its renowned performers having no affiliation to any recognized body, when any tattoo performer can easily become a member of such professional bodies and improve his craft. It is necessary for a tattoo creator to have basic know - how of dealing with infection borne out of the harmful bacteria existing in blood and body fluid in some jurisdictions, while simply getting through an exam on the precautions to be followed during the tattoo procedure will get him a license to commence his trade in certain other jurisdictions.

Aftercare

Subjecting the new tattoo creation to any water at home or at a pool during the first 15 days can cause the ink to wash away besides opening up the risk of contamination and over hydration from the bacteria and chlorine present in the pool.

It is really difficult to decide what approach to take with regards to the after care of a new tattoo, since it is not clear whether to do away with the bandage during the initial 2 hours, as some would suggest or maintain it for the entire first day and not show the tattoo at all as per certain other recommendations.

Now if you have never heard of this before, tongue tattoos come as quite a shock. As tattoos become more common ground you will find there are some who still want the mystery and allure of a unique tattoo. Due to the fact a tattoo can be of any design and style of the bearers choosing, it gives a person the opportunity to express themselves. Since tattoos have become less taboo over the years more people have begun looking into other tattooing options, and this the tongue tattoo is born.

They come in all sorts of styles and designs, with the most common being having your entire tongue tattooed a different colour. Imagine the reaction on peoples faces when you open your mouth to reveal a blue tongue, or purple or even black. This is just the type of self expression, attention and uniqueness some crave.

The most popular design is the star or tribal work. Stars are commonly found near the tip of the tongue, well tribal is typically reserved for the middle part of the tongue. Tattoos on the tongue can compliment piercings already present, adding an even more unique aspect. Of course as popularity increase so too will the available designs. If you have an idea take it to an artist and see if it can be implemented, you never know it could happen.

As far as how it is applied, it is exactly the same as a regular tattoo. It is completed with a tattoo gun and uses the process of needles penetrating the tongue to implant the colour pigmentation. Once the colour is absorbed by the tongue it will remain there forever. Most who have had this procedure done, claim there was no pain associated with it. It is often described as a tickling of the tongue. The artist will use a tool to hold the tongue out during the application. If you have a tongue piercing or have seen one done, the tool is the same one used for the piercings. Once the tongue is securely held out of the mouth the artist will tattoo it.

If this is an interesting process you would like to try, find a reputable artist around you who has experience in doing them. Not a lot of shops will do these as they are just beginning to take hold. With a little research though you should be able to find an artist. A tongue tattoo is something truly unique, defiantly not the normal everyday tattoo.

How to prevent infection

The first lesson in preventing tattoo and body piercing infection, obviously, is to not get one in the first place. Aside from that, there are a few things you can to do prevent infections in both body piercings and tattoos.

Body piercings have a greater risk of infection because they actually invade the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. For this reason, more caution is required to prevent infection. Maintaining the area with washings and using the cream that your professional piercer or tattoo artist provides with their service.

Body piercings tend to get infected if they are botched. So make sure you go to a reputable piercer who can provide you with sterile needles and materials. This is the number one preventative step you can take.

Tattooing has a low risk in getting an infection due to the way they are given. The tattoo ink is introduced into the dermis, an upper layer of the skin. Bleeding may occur but this is normal. Tattoo needles are shallow and hold low risk of infection.

Make sure that your tattoo artist is highly regarded and uses disinfected equipment. Majority of the experienced artists have their own autoclave to disinfect their own equipments. Hepatitis C is the main risk infection caused by a dirty needle in tattooing.

Some signs of infection might be inflammation, cloudy seepage, greenish scabbing, redness and tenderness of the site. There may also be signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling, redness and itching of the area. You should alert your piercer or tattoo artist to any allergies to any products they may be using such as latex. Even an allergy to inks can cause such reactions.

Although most piercings and tattoos are painful to begin with, this pain should subside within a few days to a week. If yours shows no sign of healing, you should contact your piercer or tattooist and let them look at it. In many cases they can tell you what you need to do to clear up any minor infection.

Lastly, if you get an infection that is not a normal skin irritation you must get help of a physician. You may need to take antibiotics to get rid your body of the infection. Many times this can be cured without losing the piercing and without damaging your tattoo.

How to decide on your first tattoo

Getting your first tattoo is a decision most people ponder on. The best answer is; something about you as a person. Tattoos are representations of something important in your life.

Several military men get tattoos that signify the branch of service they are a part of or unit number or even their unit nickname. For many it is a sign of pride and bravery. As a representation of love it can be a name of a close buddy, date of births of the children, or tattoos can be symbol that represents a loved one who have died and may sometimes be a character of an important person in your life.

When tattoos began, they were used to depict the group of people that a specific person belonged to. They were used to illustrate bravery and pride as well. Today, many people are designing their own tattoos for the "exclusive" rendition of their pride, love or bravery.

When you decide to get a tattoo, before you decide where to get one, you must first choose the design. It doesn't mean you have to have a specific tattoo picked out, but you must have a good idea of what you want in terms of design. It is not a good idea to have a name tattooed on your body anywhere. There is a saying; "lovers may come and lovers may go but a tattoo is forever!" It may not be as true today as it once was with laser surgery as popular as it is, but tattoos are meant to be permanent.

Before choosing what tattoo to get, visualize about special things in your life and how want it shown. Getting a small tattoo as a first tattoo has always been an excellent idea because if you no longer want it, you can have it covered by a bigger one.

Ask a tattoo artist. They can assist you on what to select and where to go. Since tattoo artists do this for a living, they mainly know what they're doing with permanent designs.

Tattoos such as cartoon characters, movie characters, themed tattoos and tribal tattoos should only be considered for the serious. These are time consuming and expensive. Your tattoo should be something that represents you as a person, your likes, or your life in general.

There is no right or wrong tattoo to get for a first tattoo, however you must remember that each one you get tells a story about something in your life that is important to you.

Determining the meaning of tattoos

Getting a tattoo is a fun process that allows you to show your individuality- something that has been done for centuries running. But when you obtain your tattoo, you don't want to send the wrong message. And since different tattoos may mean different things, it's good to know what's what in tattoo design.

Females tend to flock to the cherry blossom design when it comes to tattoos. The double cherry blossom has been a popular icon in today's culture, which states that cherry blossoms are used to show purity or youth. Cherry blossoms are also used to indicate beauty, feminism, or even education under some circumstances, depending on how they are represented.

Out of all tattoo types, the wolf has the most meaning and is one of the most frequently used tattoos. Tales of wolves are popular among Indian culture, which is where the bulk of wolf tattoos sprout from. Wolves are also seen as loners, yet very deadly and sometimes are seen as the alpha male. For this reason, wolves are usually more commonly seen in males rather than females, although there are exceptions.

You don't always need a flashy tattoo to indicate a certain meaning or describe yourself- sometimes it only takes words! It has become quite popular to get a tattoo of a simple phrase or word in a foreign language. For English-speaking countries, the trend seems to be the Japanese language due to its fascination and interesting looking letter design. Just be sure you know which word you have your heart set on!

Astrology and tattoos tend to go hand in hand. It is extremely popular for one to use their associated Zodiac symbol when obtaining a tattoo to symbolize different things. First it could symbolize your belief in astrology sciences, yet also that you are a firm believer in the animal your sign depicts. Zodiac signs can also serve as a great way to meet others who feel the same way about astrology, and helps educates others of the science of astrology.

If you happen to practice religion, you should consider getting a tattoo that indicates what you believe in. Different religions will have different symbols or words that will describe the religion in some way. You may choose a fish or a cross, for instance, if you follow christianity. You may also get a tattoo of famous figures in your religion's past or present- the possibilities are endless.

How to take care of your tattoo

Wash the tattoo using your fingertips using a mild antibacterial soap. Remove all traces of blood since this can cause scabbing. Do not scrub the tattoo with a washcloth during the healing period. Always pat the tattoo dry with a clean soft cloth or let it air dry. Apply a thin coat of ointment to the tattoo. Tattoo Goo, , A&D Ointment and Aquaphor are all very great. Only use enough to make it shine and work it in well. Remove all the excess ointment with a paper towel. You only need enough to keep the tattoo moist to keep it from scabbing. You do not need to re-bandage your tattoo.

You should re-apply ointment whenever the tattoo is starting to feel dry or stiff. Typically three to five times per day for three or four days then switch to a moisturizer such as Keri, Lubriderm, Jergens, or Vaseline Intensive care. Do not use lotions that contain color, fragrance or sparkles until the healing is complete.

If you don't keep it moist it will form a thick scab that may crack when you move. When this kind of scab is formed the ink sits within it and slowly heals into the skin. When the tattoo is kept moist it doesn't have a chance to form a scab but does form a thin membrane to protect the tattoo while it heals. Do not peelor pick at your tattoo, you will pull the ink out. It is normal to see small flakes of colored skin falling off during the healing stage.

You must keep your tattoo clean, but long showers or baths should be avoided for 2 weeks. Prolonged soaking can loosen any scabs that may have formed, or will soak through the soft tissue and cause some of your ink to leak out.

Try not to scratch or pick at the tattoo. It will get itchy and a good alternative that I found worked well was to slap it or spray it with rubbing alcohol.

The sun is bad for your tattoo, even if you've had it for a long time. Wait until it is fully healed before you go back in the sun make sure you put on a high quality sunblock. Do not apply sunblock while the tattoo is healing though. The tattoo is under your skin, and your tan will form above it. If you get too dark, some colors may not show as brightly as they used to. Over time, excessive exposure to the sun will cause your tattoo to fade.
